Stainless Steel 316L Seamless Pipes Manufacturer
Stainless Steel 316L Seamless Pipe is a low-carbon austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum grade manufactured by Zhejiang Xintongda Special Steel Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (XTD). Under the UNS S31603 and EN 1.4404 typologies, this specific grade is processed to conform with ASTM A312 TP316L standard criteria. It contains approximately 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum, with a maximum carbon content of 0.035%. The low carbon content reduces the risk of sensitisation during welding, while molybdenum improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing environments compared with 304L. This combination provides good corrosion resistance and weldability for demanding service conditions involving chemicals, moisture, and elevated temperatures. This 316L stainless steel pipe is suitable for pharmaceutical, chemical processing, marine, food processing, and other industrial applications. XTD supplies SS 316L pipe in various outside diameters, wall thicknesses, and lengths according to project requirements. 316L SS pipe can be supplied with the required material documentation and traceability for demanding applications where corrosion resistance and weldability are important.

SS 316L Seamless Pipe Manufacturing Process
To make ASTM A312 TP316L pipe, we first take a strong stainless steel billet and heat and pierce it to form a hollow shell. This shell then undergoes hot working, followed by cold-drawing/ cold-rolling to get precise dimensions. The next step is to perform solution annealing to increase the pipe’s corrosion resistance and ductility. The last step is to perform acid pickling and straightening, after which we send it for testing. To learn more about our manufacturing process, kindly visit this page.
What are the Key Features of 316L Stainless Steel Pipe?
There are 5 main properties of the SS 316L seamless pipe: corrosion resistance, low carbon content, excellent weldability, good formability & ductility, and biocompatibility.
- Corrosion Resistance: The chromium (16-18%) present in this alloy forms a stable passive Cr₂O₃ oxide layer that shields the metal from oxidation and most acids, and the molybdenum (2-3%) stabilises this layer to prevent pitting and crevice corrosion.
- Low Carbon Content: The low carbon content (0.035%) in the SS 316L pipe prevents chromium carbides from forming at grain boundaries (intergranular corrosion). It also minimises carbide precipitation.
- Excellent Weldability: The low carbon content prevents sensitisation, which ensures the alloy retains excellent weldability even after welding.
- Good Formability & Ductility: The austenitic microstructure and the balanced chemical composition make stainless 316L pipe more formable and ductile.
- Biocompatibility: SS 316L pipe is biocompatible because of its non-toxic composition and low-ion leaching in physiological environments.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How is 316L pipe different from 316?The major difference between 316L pipe and 316 is that 316L has a lower carbon content, which makes it highly resistant to sensitisation and intergranular corrosion.
-
What are the standard sizes of 316L seamless pipes? The outer diameter of our 316L pipe ranges from 6-1016 mm, the thickness ranges from 1-65 mm, and the length goes up to 18 m.
-
Does SS 316L seamless pipe rust? No, SS 316L pipe doesn’t rust easily, even when exposed to highly corrosive conditions and elevated temperatures.
